LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Long Beach State suffered its first loss in Big West Conference action as the Beach dropped a 67-52 decision to UC Davis on Friday evening at the Walter Pyramid.

With the loss, LBSU's first since December 23, the Beach fall to 11-2 on the year and 10-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Aggies improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in conference.

Long Beach State struggled offensively as the Beach got several good looks, but were unable to score. LBSU finished the game with a season-low 30.2 field goal percentage and connected on just 3-of-22 from long distance for a 13.6 three-point field goal percentage. That proved to be the difference in the game as UC Davis concluded the contest shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.

Ma'Qhi Berry was the bright spot for the Beach as she led all scorers with 18 points, just one shy of her season-best, while registering four rebounds, two steals, two assists, and one block. Kianna Hamilton-Fisher also turned in a solid performance with 14 points, a new season-high for the redshirt sophomore, while adding four boards and two steals.

Jasmine Hardy led the Beach in rebounding with 11, her third double-digit rebounding game in as many contests. She also added seven points, one block, and one steal. Also cleaning up the glass for LBSU was Kristyna Jeskeova who finished the game with nine boards.

Jeskeova kicked off the game with a layup to give the Beach the early edge, but UC Davis used a 7-0 run to take a 7-2 advantage within the first five minutes of action. The first quarter saw both teams struggle to find their offensive groove as the frame came to an end with the Aggies leading 9-6 and both teams shooting under 25 percent from the field.

The defensive showcase continued into the second quarter. Berry gave LBSU back the lead with a triple at 6:54 to make it 13-11, but the lead was short-lived. UC Davis found their offensive rhythm in the final minutes of the second quarter and closed the frame on an 11-0 run to take a 33-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.

That 11-0 run by the Aggies gave UC Davis the edge it needed as the Beach were unable to close the gap in the second half. Long Beach State trailed by double-digits the rest of the game and UC Davis led by as many as 18 (56-38) with 7:35 on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Long Beach State rattled off seven-straight points towards the end of the fourth, but the damage had already been done as the Beach fell, 67-52.

Cierra Hall led UC Davis with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals. She was 5-for-9 from the field, 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 4-for-4 from the line.

Long Beach State and UC Davis will go head-to-head again on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
