Offensive Struggles Hamper the Beach in Loss to UC Davis

Hardy and Jeskeova lead the way, both one rebound shy of a double-double

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State suffered its first back-to-back losses of the season at the hands of Big West Conference foe UC Davis. The Beach's offensive woes continued as they fell 67-50 to the Aggies on Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach drop to 11-3 overall and 10-2 in league play, while the Aggies improve to 7-1 on the year and 6-0 in Big West Conference action and move into first place in the conference standings.
Long Beach State shot just 29.3 percent from the field and (17-for-58) and connected on just 4-of-21 from long distance for a clip of 19.0 percent. With cold shooting hampering the Beach for the second night in a row, LBSU fell behind UC Davis early and was never able to recover.
UC Davis outscored Long Beach State 21-7 in the first quarter, but the Beach refused to go quietly. LBSU showed its determination in the second quarter as the Beach went on a 10-0, highlighted by back-to-back layups from Kianna Hamilton-Fisher, to close the gap and make it an eight-point game (29-21). Following a three by Mackenzie Trpcic to end LBSU's run, the Beach found themselves down 32-21 at halftime.
The Beach managed to connect on their first three-pointer in the third quarter as Kristyna Jeskeova knocked one down at 4:38 to make it a 44-28 game. UC Davis continued to control the offensive rhythm of the game as the Aggies shot 60-percent from the field in the frame to LBSU's 25-percent as the two teams headed into the final quarter with the score 56-33 in favor of the guests.

Long Beach State shot its best – 42.9 percent – from the field in the fourth quarter. The Beach sunk three more triples and outscored the Aggies 17-11 in the frame. However, it was too little too late as LBSU dropped a 67-50 contest to UC Davis.
Jasmine Hardy led the Beach with 13 points, nine of which came in the final 10 minutes of action, while adding nine rebounds and one steal. Jeskeova finished the game with 11 points and nine boards to go along with four steals and three assists.
UC Davis' Cierra Hall led all scorers with 20 points, while contributing seven rebounds, six assists, half a dozen steals, and one block. Trpcic added 13 points of her own, while dishing out five assists and collecting two steals.
Long Beach State looks to bounce back next weekend when the Beach take on Cal Poly on Friday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 20, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Both games will tip off at 2 p.m.
