SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's basketball team's offensive struggles continued as the Beach dropped their third-straight game with a 55-44 loss at Cal Poly on Friday afternoon.
The Beach (11-4, 10-3 Big West) were held to just 26.4 percent shooting from the field and connected on just 2-of-23 three-point field goals for a season-low 8.7 percentage.
Cal Poly (10-7, 6-5 Big West) shot 46.0 percent from the field as the Mustangs took an early lead that they never relinquished.
Justina King was Long Beach State's leading scorer with 17 points, while Kristyna Jeskeova topped the squad with 11 boards. Jeskeova also added three steals, two assists, and two blocks.
LBSU got off to a slow start as the Beach were limited to just 16 points in the first half on 26.9 percent shooting from the field. Additionally, Long Beach State connected on just 2-of-8 free throws, while going 0-for-10 from long distance.
Meanwhile, Cal Poly took a 22-16 edge at the break as the Mustangs shot 41.7 percent from the field as Sierra Campisano led the way with 10 points and seven rebounds by half time.
LBSU came out of the intermission firing and made it a one-possession game after Naomi Hunt drained a three at 7:43 (24-21). However, Cal Poly stormed back and opened up a 10-point lead (33-23) before taking a 35-27 lead into the final quarter.
Cal Poly led by as many as 14 (46-32) and although the Beach managed to whittle that lead down to six (50-44) after a three from King with just 48 seconds remaining, the Mustangs were able to hold off Long Beach State.
Campisano finished the game with a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds), while Kirsty Brown added 10 points and nine boards for the Mustangs.
Long Beach State looks to get back on the winning track when the Beach take on the Mustangs once again on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m., at Mott Athletics Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
