Long Beach State Defeats San Jose State To Advance to GCC Title Game

Andrej Bosanac has 11 saves as the Beach defeats the Spartans in GCC semifinals.
Irvine, Calif. — In a defensive slugfest, Long Beach State defeated San Jose State 8-4 in the Golden Coast Conference Tournament Saturday night at Anteater Aquatics Complex to advance to the championship game.
The Beach will take on Pacific for the GCC Championship game Sunday at 2 p.m.
Andrej Bosanac led the Beach defense with 11 saves and three steals as he controlled the cage and kept the Spartans at bay as LBSU built its lead.
After the first period Long Beach State (21-5) had a 1-0 lead after Evan Cain found the back of the cage.
SJSU's Yahav Fire matched Bosanac's 11 saves and kept the Beach offense frustrated early.
In the second period, the Beach extended its lead to 3-1 at halftime. Alika Naone and Garrett Zaan each scored to give LBSU the lead.
Both teams battled to slow each other down offensively as each team scored only once to make it a 4-2 game after the third.
In the fourth, the Beach pulled away as they outscored the Spartans 4-2 to take the victory.
Garrett Zaan, Rafael Real Vergara and Evan Cain led the Beach with two goals each.
The Beach will now take on Pacific on Sunday for the third time this season. The winner will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
After dropping their first contest to Pacific, the Beach defeated Pacific in GCC play in a thrilling 15-13 overtime win in October.
