Rafael Real Vergara Named Golden Coast Player of the Year

Six Beach athletes earn All-GCC Honors.
Long Beach, Calif. — The Golden Coast Conference announced on Tuesday that Long Beach State's Rafael Real Vergara has been named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Year.
Real Vergara scored a conference-high 63 goals as the Beach went 5-0 in GCC play to become the regular season champion.
The junior scored a career-high six goals twice, including during a GCC victory against Pepperdine on Nov. 6. Real Vergara also earned GCC Player of the Week on Sept. 16.
Along with recognizing the GCC Player of the Year, the GCC also announced its All-Conference honors and six Beach athletes were recognized.
Earning All-GCC First Team honors were Real Vergara and Garrett Zaan.
Zaan earned his second All-GCC honor after being named to the Second Team All-GCC in 2019. This season Zaan scored 30 goals and had 11 steals.
After finishing the regular season with a 19-5 record and 212 saves Andrej Bosanac earned Second Team All-GCC honors. Bosanac also earned GCC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 9.
Along with Bosanac, Matt Morris was also earned to the All-GCC Second Team. The Auckland native was third on the team with 37 goals and 16 steals. Morris also earned GCC Player of the Week honors on Oct. 14 after scoring seven goals over two victories.
Wrapping up the honors for the Beach was Evan Cain and Alika Naone who earned spots All-GCC Freshmen Team.
Cain earned a spot on the team after scoring 25 goals and 11 steals. Naone made an immediate impact for the team after seeing his first action with the team midway through the season.
In 11 games, Naone scored 25 goals, dished out nine assists and had seven steals.
