Beach Tennis Heads to San Diego for ITA Southwest Regionals

Long Beach State will have six athletes competing at the ITA Southwest Regionals this weekend in San Diego.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Long Beach State will have six athletes competing this weekend at the ITA Southwest Regionals at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Arina Babkova, Nikola Homolkova, Claire Le Du, Zara Lennon, Sheena Masuda, and Zuzanna Szczepanska will all be competing in both doubles and singles play.
Doubles action will start at 8:30 a.m. with the round of 64 on Thursday. Lennon/Masuda will team up for the first time together this fall, taking on Balbe-Gonzalez/Janikian of UC Santa Barbara in the first round. Babkova/Szczepanska will play together for the second tournament this fall, and will play Iamachkine/Redelijk of Pepperdine. Le Du and Homolkova will also team up for the first time together, and will play Arizona's Wilkins/Ziouti out of the PAC-12.
Singles play will follow shortly after the conclusion of doubles action with the round of 128. In singles play Le Du will play her opening round at 9:15 a.m. against Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik of LMU. Masuda will take on Taylor Johnson of UCLA out of the PAC-12 in the first round, with her match starting at 10:00 a.m. Szczepanska's opening match will take place at 10:30 a.m. against Jacqueline O'Neill of CSUN, while Babkova will open against Victoria Kalaitzis of San Diego at 11:15 a.m. Homolkova will take on Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine in her opening round match at 11:45 a.m. Finally, Lennon will open singles play against Big West foe Filippa Bruu-Syversen of UC Santa Barbara at 11:45 a.m.
There will be 16 teams competing in this year's regional along with the Beach and hosts San Diego; Arizona, Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and USC.
