Jason Smith Wins MPSF Indoor Title in Men’s Long Jump

The Beach opened up the 2020 MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday in Seattle, with the men’s team sitting in sixth place after one day of competition. Senior Jason Smith claimed the title in the men’s long jump with a mark of 25-04.50.
SEATTLE -- The Beach opened up the 2020 MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday in Seattle, with the men's team sitting in sixth place after one day of competition. Senior Jason Smith claimed the title in the men's long jump with a mark of 25-04.50.
Smith's individual title brought in 10 points for the men's squad, and the Beach finished with 19 points to rank sixth after the first day in a tie with UCLA. That placed LBSU ahead of Stanford, USC, and others after the first day of competition.
The Beach also scored in the men's weight throw, with both Charlie Vernoy and Gavin Fua finishing in the top eight. Vernoy was fifth with a heave of 60-05.75 and Fua finished right behind him in sixth with a mark of 60-05.25. They combined to add seven points to LBSU's team score.
In the men's distance medley, the quartet of Ricky Villa, Faris Babineaux, Cole Bosley, and Raymon Ornelas placed seventh with a time of 10:20.88. In the shorter distances, Michael Hull-Littlejohn placed 11th in the 60m dash with a time of 6.78.
On the women's side of the action, Sydney Barnes took part in the pentathlon. Her best event was the shot put where she placed fifth with a throw of 36-05.50.
The MPSF Championships will conclude on Saturday with events beginning at 10 a.m. in Washington.
