SEATTLE – The Beach wrapped up the 2020 MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the University of Washington. It was a slower day two for Long Beach State, but there were still a handful of noteworthy performances in the conference championship meet.
Following his individual title in the men's long jump on Friday, senior Jason Smith placed seventh in the men's high jump by clearing 6-11.00. Only four competitors were able to clear a higher bar, but Smith slotted in seventh due to tiebreakers.
The Beach was well-represented in the triple jump, where Micqwuan Wright just missed out on the top eight with his best leap of 46-00.75. He was one of four Long Beach State athletes in the top 14 of the event, with Tegbir Jhutty placing 11th, followed by Bethel Babatunde in 12th and Trevor Harris in 14th.
In the throws, Charlie Vernoy also just missed on scoring some points for the Beach. His mark of 50-04.50 in the men's shot put placed him 10th in the event.
Long Beach State will be back in action in two weeks for the NCAA Indoor Championships Mar. 13-14 in New Mexico. Before that, the outdoor season gets underway with the Beach Opener Mar. 6-7 at Jack Rose Track.
