Women's Water Polo Opens Season At Beach Invite

The Beach will kickstart the season Saturday at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Long Beach State women's water polo team will be back in the pool this Saturday when it competes in three games during the Beach Invite at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center to kickstart the 2020 campaign.
The Beach will be without two of its top three scorers in Marilia Eleni Mimidi and Tori Morissey, but will welcome the return of sophomore Orsi Hertzka who led the team with 72 goals. Hertzka earned honorable mention All-American honors and was a first team All-Big West selection last season. The sophomore also earned a spot on the All-Freshman team .
The Beach will open the season against La Verne at 8:30 a.m. This will mark the first time LBSU has faced La Verne since the 2014 season. In that game the Beach came away with a 19-2 victory.
Following its contest against the Leopards, LBSU will face San Diego State at 11 a.m. The last time the Beach faced SDSU, LBSU came away with a 7-6 win in March last season.
Rounding the day for the Beach they will face Azusa Pacific at 2 p.m.The last time LBSU faced the Cougars, the Beach won 9-4 during the 2018 season.
These three games will be part of a 6-game schedule that includes contests between La Verne and Cal State Northridge, CSUN and La Verne, and SDSU and La Verne.
