LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State is proud to welcome back former student-athlete and two-time All-American Dan Matulis who has been hired by Head Coach Gavin Arroyo as an Assistant Coach for the Men's Water Polo program. Matulis has spent the last three years at Golden West CC as an assistant with both the men's and women's programs.
Before returning to the Beach, Matulis played a big part in the recent success for Golden West, helping lead the men's program to an 88-1 overall record in the last three years.
"Dan was part of one of our most successful teams to date as a player," said Arroyo. "He knows what it takes to win and has developed his coaching and teaching skills at Golden West. His background in sports psychology and assisting with academics makes him well-rounded as a coach, and we expect great things from him."
A four-year letterwinner for Long Beach State, Matulis earned AWPCA All-American honors. His 69 goals in 2012 ranks fifth all-time in one season at Long Beach State, and while at the Beach he earned United States Senior Men's National Team call-up in 2013. An excellent student, Matulis also earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Kinesiology at Long Beach State and is a certified mental performance consultant.
