Men’s Water Polo Opens Season at Triton Invitational

Long Beach State heads down to UC San Diego for a pair of games on Saturday and two more on Sunday.
Long Beach, Calif. – The 2019 men's water polo season gets underway this weekend as Long Beach State heads to San Diego for the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego. The Beach is scheduled to play four times this weekend, with a pair of games both Saturday and Sunday. LBSU opens the season ranked No. 5 in the country by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
The season opener is set for Saturday at 9:20 a.m. as Long Beach State will take on Fresno Pacific University. The outcome of this game will determine Long Beach State's opponents and start times for the second game on Saturday and Sunday games.
LBSU has opened its season in San Diego in each of the last six years. In last year's tournament, LBSU went 3-1 with wins over Cal Baptist, Chapman and UC Irvine.
Despite the loss of All-American's Austin Stevenson and Keegan Wicken, the Beach have plenty of returning talent on the roster this season. Long Beach is excited to return second team All-American Austin Stewart who recorded 56 total goals in 2018 with a .683 shot percentage. The Beach is also excited to return All-Americans Garrett Zaan (26 goals) and goalie, Marwan Darwish.
Long Beach State is also welcoming in a strong freshman class who are looking to make their debuts at the Triton Invitational. These players include Andrej Bosanac, Quinten Osborne, Eduardo Wainberg, Elijah Graves and Rafael Real Vergara.
