Long Beach State water polo continues to shine during the offseason on the international stage.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Over the summer, Long Beach State's coaches and student-athletes have stepped up to the International stage, as Gavin Arroyo and Liz Grimes are working with the USA National Team while first-team All-Big West selection Orsi Hertzka has been competing for the Hungarian Women's team at the World University Games in Napoli.
Head Coach Gavin Arroyo is currently working as an assistant coach for the United States Men's National Team as the USA competes in the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. Currently in pool play, the US men will be trying to advance to the knockout rounds prior to the conclusion of the World Championships on July 28.
LBSU Water Polo's own Liz Grimes is serving in an administrative role for the tournament as well, taking on duties she knows well from her position at the Beach as well as extensive experience within international water polo as well.
Competing earlier this month with the Hungarian squad at the World University Games, Hertzska tallied a pair of penalties as well as five goals from open play to help Hungary defeat the hosts Italy in the finals, winning the Gold Medal in Napoli. Hertzka scored 72 goals for Long Beach State as a freshman and will be returning for her sophomore season in the spring.
