Davis Advances to the NCAA Championships After Day Two of the West Preliminaries

Raleigh Adams and Courtne' Davis advance to the quarterfinals.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Senior Courtne' Davis punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter dash on Friday, highlighting the second day of action at the NCAA West Preliminaries. The senior will join two LBSU student-athletes that have already qualified.
 
 
Davis ran the 10th fastest time in the field, recording a wind legal and lifetime-best of 11.37 to advance to the championships in Austin and continues to hold the second-best time on the all-time list. The premier sprinter also finished No. 21 in the 200m with a third place heat finish and time of 23.44, automatically advancing to the quarterfinals.
 
Raleigh Adams showcased his talents in a big way, breaking Milt Turner's school record set in 1972 with a time of 13.59 in the 110m hurdles. Adams currently holds the No.1 seed time for Saturday's quarterfinals with a great shot at advancing to the NCAA Championships. The hurdler is currently ranked seventh in the nation with that performance.
 
Big West Field Athlete of the Year and NCAA qualifier Kemonie Briggs, competed in the 400m quarterfinals after having a successful day one in the event. The senior finished seventh in his heat, running a consistent time of 46.62. Briggs was just spots off another NCAA qualification, placing 19th overall.
 
In the field, Charlie Vernoy was just three spots off of the qualifying mark in the discus with a throw of 54.84m (179-11.00) to finish in 15th. Teammate Sebastian Coleman entered the meet ranked 46th and finished in 26th with a solid throw of 53.59m (175-10.00) in his very first regional competition. Senior Josh Carr finished his collegiate career in the discus with a solid performance and throw of 49.70m (163-01.00).  
 
Both the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams will compete on Saturday, in contention to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Big West Champion, Vincent Calhoun will make make his debut Saturday as well in the men's high jump, with a shot at joining his teammates in Austin.
