
Briggs and Palmer Headed to the NCAA Championships After Day One at the West Prelims

Briggs and Palmer punch tickets to the NCAA Championship
SACRAMENTO, Calif.- It was a big day in the field for the Beach, as both Kemonie Briggs and Bria Palmer finished in the Top 12 punching their tickets to the NCAA Championships in the first day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminaries.
Big West Field Athlete of the Year Kemonie Briggs had an amazing performance, finishing in seventh place in the long jump with a mark of 7.65m (25-01.25). Briggs will move on to the national championship in the first of three events he will be competing in this week. The senior also showed his talents on the track with a well-executed race in the 400m dash. Briggs ran a new PR of 46.46 to place second in the fourth heat and automatically qualify for the quarterfinals.
Senior Bria Palmer also punched her ticket to the national championships, with a outstanding performance in the high jump. Palmer tied for sixth place, clearing 1.80m (5-10.75) to also tie her personal-best. The senior is currently ranked No.22 in the nation.
More in the field, De'Ondra Young entered the meet ranked No. 37 in the hammer throw and finished the competition in 23rd with a mark of 58.96m (193-05.00). Senior Nicholas Hudson and Josh Carr also had solid performances in the men's hammer throw, finishing in 20th and 45th with marks set at 60.48m (198-03.00) and 55.98m (183-08) to close out the competition in for the throws squad.
On the track, senior Courtne' Davis tied her personal-best time, running 11.40 to finish second in hear four and automatically advance to the quarterfinal. Davis is currently ranked No.9 in the field and is in contention to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships. Azaria Hill also competed in the 100m and finished with a time of 11.97 to place 45th overall.
Skylin Harbin showed determination competing in her first ever regional meet, placing 34th with a time of 1:00.93 to wrap up her season.
Action in Sacramento continues tomorrow, and the Beach will have nine student-athletes scheduled to compete. Carr will compete in his second event, the men's discus, alongside teammates Sebastian Coleman and Charlie Vernoy. Davis will compete iin the 100m quarterfinal, as well as the first round of the 200m. Raleigh Adams will have an opportunity to run for his chance to advance to the quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles as well. Gabe Simpson will be the first LBSU men's athlete to compete in the 3,000m steeple chase. Live results will continue to be provided via the NCAA.
