Long Beach State Will Send 21 to NCAA West Preliminary Round Championship.

Over 20 athletes will compete in Sacramento at the NCAA West Regional meet
LONG BEACH, Calif.- Long Beach State will have over 20 student-athletes competing in 20 events this week at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, Calif. beginning Thursday, May 23rd.

LBSU athletes will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships which will be held June 5-8 in Austin, Tex.

Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Year, Kemonie Briggs will have a busy slate in Sacramento, competing in the long jump, 400m, and 4x100m relay. Briggs was the Big West champion in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 26-01.50 to take the title for the fourth consecutive year, and comes into the meet ranked No. 4 in the event. The senior also placed second in the 400m with a new PR of 46.59 and third in the 4x100m relay to qualify for the West Regionals.

Senior Vincent Calhoun was the Big West champion in the high jump, and will compete in that event for his second year at the West Regionals. Calhoun was the top finisher in the four events he competed in during the outdoor season. The senior qualified with a huge jump of 7-03.00 in the first meet of the season at the Beach Opener.

The LBSU throws squad will have a qualifier in three out of the four throwing events, competing in the West Regionals. Seniors Nicholas Hudson and Josh Carr had outstanding performances at the Big West Championships with second and third place finishes, both qualifying for the men's hammer throw. Hudson qualified for the hammer for the second straight year with a throw of 205-04 in the first meet of the season. Carr will also compete in the discus for the third consecutive year with a throw of 177-05 earlier this season at the Titan Twilight. He'll be joined in the discus by Charlie Vernoy and Sebastian Coleman who are ranked No. 9 at 192-09 and No. 47 at 178-04. Tavi Kamurullah placed second in the shot put at the Big West Championships, qualifying for the West Regionals with a personal-best throw of 58-06.50.

On the track, Raleigh Adams will compete in the 110m hurdles, after taking second place at the Big West Championships with a PR of 13.83. The men's 4x100m relay team consisting of Briggs, Femi Ajose, Kent Harris, and Chaio Winters, will also compete in the quarterfinal scheduled on Saturday, May 25th. Gabe Simpson is the first steeple chase runner to represent the men's program in the men's program at the NCAA West Regionals. Simpson is currently ranked No. 26 with a time of 8:52.25.

Fresh off a double win at the Big West Championship, Courtne' Davis will run the 100m and 200m in Sacramento, and will be joined by teammate Azaria Hill in the 100m as well. Davis is the top qualifier in the Big West in the 100m and second in the 200m, while Hill is third in the 100m.

Senior Skylin Harbin placed third in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 58.69, qualifying for the West Regionals. Harbin enters the meet as second top qualifier in the Big West and is ranked No. 23 in the region.

In the field events, Bria Palmer will return to the NCAAs for the third year in a row after qualifying with a PR earlier in the season with a clearance of 5'10.75", ranking her No.11 going into the weeks competition. Senior De'Ondra Young will compete in the hammer throw, after qualifying at the Big West Championships with a season-best performance and throw of 195-06.00. Young is currently ranked No.37 in the region.

Davis and Hill will be joined by Madison Golden and Samaya Brandon in running the 4x100m relay, to round out the women's qualifiers. Â
