Long Beach State Drops Decision Against Hawai’i In Big West Battle

Long Beach State opened the game close with Hawai’i, but couldn’t keep up, 15-7.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 12Long Beach State (15-12, 1-2 Big West) found themselves in a hole early in the game, but bounced back to pull with one, 3-2. LBSU would keep battling in the second quarter, but the No. 4 Hawai'i (15-5, 3-1 Big West) lead would grow and eventually be too much for the Beach, 15-7. Freshman Orsi Hertzka and junior Marilia Mimidi led the Beach with two goals apiece.
Hawai'i took an early lead in the first quarter by scoring three goals, but LBSU would fight back with goals from Hertzka and freshman Gabriella Matafora-Adams. LBSU found themselves down at the end of one, 3-2.
The Beach and Hawai'i would trade goals in the first half of the second quarter with LBSU's scorers being Mimidi and freshman Camille Gallardo-Russell. Hawai'i would strike twice more at the end of the quarter to extend their lead, 7-4.
LBSU would score three more times before the end of the match, but Hawai'i would be too much for the Beach, 15-7. LBSU's final goals came from senior Annabel Harman, Hertzka, and Mimidi.
Hertzka is in sole possession of the seventh spot for most goals scored in a single season in LBSU history with 62. Harman brings up her total to 31 goals on the year, while Mimidi has tacked on 41 total goals. Morrissey is now two assists away from tying Tara Campbell and Roberta Stewart for the 10th spot for most assists in a single season in LBSU history as she has 26.
Long Beach State will be back in action on April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center as they take on No. 8 UC Irvine.
