Members of LBSU prepare for the Big West Challenge

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State track and field program will join multiple conference opponents on Friday for the 27th annual Big West Challenge, hosted by UC Santa Barbara. The women's program placed second in the event last season, while the men were third.

Action will begin in the field at 12:30 p.m. with the men's hammer throw followed by the women's. LBSU will then have three athletes competing in both the women's and men's pole vault scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Current Big West leader Kemonie Briggs will have a busy afternoon, competing in the long jump, 400m, and both sprint relays. LBSU senior Vincent Calhoun will look to keep his streak of event wins going in the men's high jump, as he has won every outdoor competition this season.

Erykah McNairy and Amanda Truong will compete in the hammer and discuss throw, while De'Ondra Young and Crystal Rodriguez compete in both the hammer and shot put.
On the track, competition will begin at 5 p.m. with the Long Beach State women's 4x100-meter relay squad. The quartet of Courtne' Davis, Madison Golden, Azaria Hill, and Skylin Harbin look to improve on their season-best time of 44.94 Friday evening. School record holders Davis, Golden, and Hill will also run in the women's 100m and 200m dash. LBSU will also have five athletes competing in the men's and women's short hurdles set to begin at 6:00 p.m.  Quarter-milers LeNaya Griffin, Shalee Reynolds, and Whitney Knox will run in the 400m for the Beach. Indoor school record holder, Koty Burton will compete in both 110mh and 400m hurdles; Raleigh Adams will also participate in the 400m hurdles in his first race of the season.

Athlete of the Week nominee, Michael Simpson and Jacob Korgan will each compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the Beach. Senior Alyssa Allen will compete in both the 800m and 1500m as well as freshman Jazmin Esparza in the 1500m. The Beach will have six athletes in the men's 3,000-meters scheduled to start at 7:50 p.m.

Live results for the Big West Challenge will be available online via Finished Results.
