Wren, Fry Lead Long Beach State To 5-1 Win To Close Series At Cal Poly

Nichole Fry set the school’s runs scored record in the victory.
Long Beach State (21-23, 8-7 Big West) had a carbon-copy start to the first game of the series, as Jamie Wren and Lauren Lombardi hit two-out singles in the first inning to put runners on the corners for the second time in three games. Taylor Rowland followed with a third straight hit to change the outcome though and put the Beach on top 1-0 over Cal Poly (10-35, 4-11 Big West) in the first inning.
In the second, the Beach kept the pressure on. Sydney McCollum doubled to start the inning, and after the top of the order came up, the Mustangs walked Nichole Fry for the second time of the weekend, but then loaded the bases with an ordinary walk to team leader Naomi Hernandez. Wren then hit a looping liner into left field that Lily Amos wasn't able to catch on a full run and kicking away, allowing three runs to score before Wren was thrown out at third.
Fry's run in the process broke the school record for runs scored, and the Beach took a 4-0 lead after two innings. Fry and Wren combined once again in the fourth inning to add a fifth run, Wren singled home the senior shortstop to increase the lead once more.

White's only blemish on the scoreboard came in the fifth inning as Amos hit a solo home run to left field to snap the shutout. Otherwise, White struck out four and allowed just the lone run while picking up her second win of the series.
