
Bell Highlights Day One at the Steve Scott Invitational

Multiple conference qualifiers in final preparation for the Big West Championships.

IRVINE, Calif- Long Beach State opened up day one at the Steve Scott Invitational, in their final competition prior to the Big West Championships. Over 55 LBSU athletes hold qualifying marks for the Big West Championships, and multiple athletes hit conference qualifying marks after day one of competition.
Freshman Amy Bell took the spotlight Friday with another huge PR in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 12-11.50, placing second in the event. Her mark holds the No. 2 spot in the Big West Conference, and the top 43 in the West Region. Teammate Kennedy Krueger finished in fourth with a leap of 12-05.50.
In the jumps, senior Melanee Williams leaped to a new personal-best in the women's long jump with a solid mark of 19-03.25, placing her at ninth in the event and currently eighth in the Big West Conference. Allison Foster recorded a season-best mark with a jump of 18-09.25, snagging a conference qualifying mark.
De'Ondra Young threw to a season-best mark in the women's hammer throw, reaching 195-05.00 to finish second in the event. Young holds the No.2 spot in the conference and is just off the No.1 mark by three feet. She is also listed at No. 32 in the West Region. Erykah McNairy also had a solid day solidifying a new personal-record in her last and final throw with a mark of 178-00.00. Teammate Amanda Truong finished in 10th and was just off her best with a throw of 164-01.00.
On the men's side, Nicholas Hudson was the top finisher for the Beach in another great performance of the hammer throw. Coming off of a successful performance at the Beach Invitational, Hudson was just off his PR unleashing a throw of 212-08.00 to win the event. Hudson is currently No. 2 in the conference, No. 17 in the West Region, and No. 33 in the nation. Josh Carr and Charlie Vernoy finished closely in third and fifth with marks of 189.05.00 and 189.03.00. Sebastian Coleman recorded a new PR in the event with a throw big throw of 182-05.00, finishing in seventh. Carr also competed in the men's javelin for the first time and was the top scorer for the Beach with a third place finish and surpassed the conference qualifying mark with a throw of 177-08.00.
On the track, freshman Tiana Prince competed exclusively in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase and garnered the conference qualifying mark in the with a huge PR of 11:32.76. Senior Mikayla Florez recorded a season-best in the 5,000 meters with a conference qualifying time of 17.33.81, finishing fourth in the event. In the men's 5,000 meters, Trevor Stangle ran a new personal-best to finish in 10th and also obtain a conference qualifying time of 14.49.06.
The Steve Scott Invitational continues on Saturday, with nearly 60 Long Beach State student-athletes competing in the final meet prior to the Big West Championship.
