LBSU will be a little under a week removed from facing UC Santa Barbara and look for a different outcome this time around.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – LBSU (15-14, 1-4) was tied with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (20-7, 3-2) heading into the fourth quarter last weekend as they were notched at 2-2. The Gauchos ended up outscoring the Beach 3-1 in the fourth quarter to eventually snag the win 6-3.
Entering the Big West Tournament, LBSU was placed as the five seed against a familiar face in the fourth seeded UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. This time around, Long Beach State will look to take down the Gauchos as they battle in the first round of the Big West Tournament serving as the opening game on Friday, April 26, at 1 p.m. The Big West Tournament will be hosted at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
Long Beach State is led by their freshman scoring juggernaut in Orsi Hertzka who has 67 goals on the season. The 67 goals by the freshman are fourth most all-time in LBSU history in a single season. In addition, Hertzka's 67 goals is also second most by a freshman in LBSU Women's Water Polo history. Following Hertzka is junior Marilia Mimidi who has 42 goals on the season. The top five scorers of the Beach are rounded off by freshman Sarah Barker (34), senior Annabel Harman (33) and senior Tori Morrissey (30).
