
Long Beach State Finishes up the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate meet at Jack Rose Track

LONG BEACH, Calif. - LBSU wrapped up a beautiful day of action at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate meet, as the Beach hosted the first of three days of Track and Field at Jack Rose Track.
Many great performances came from the event, including multiple PR's in the throws and sprints. LBSU senior Nicholas Hudson set a new personal-record in the hammer, unleashing a throw of 63.77m (209-03.00) to place third in the event and holds the eighth spot on the all-time list.
Erin McGuire and Melanee Williams had solid performances in the women's 100 meter hurdles, running new-personal records with times of 14.40 and 14.41 on their home track. The women's 4x100m relay team of Samaya Brandon, Courtne' Davis, Madison Golden, and Azaria Hill recorded a time of 45.71 to place second in day one of competition.
In the high jump, senior Diana Acholonu garnered a first place finish and tied her personal-best mark of 5-07.75. Kennedy Krueger was just off her personal best in the women's pole vault, with a clearance of 12-03.50 to finish in third place.
On the men's side, Long Beach State senior Kemonie Briggs was the top finisher in the 200 meters and just off his personal-best with a time of 21.31. Kent Harris placed third in the event, running a time of 21.76. In the 110 meter hurdles, Derreck Affor had a solid performance finishing in eighth with a personal-best time of 14.46.
In the discus, junior Charlie Vernoy finished third with a mark of 55.40m (181-09.00). Vernoy holds the 10th spot on the all-time list.
Michael Simpson, Gavin Korby, and Tyler Spencer showcased for the Beach at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday. Simpson recorded a new personal-best in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:05.80.
The main event begins tomorrow, however, as the 25th Beach Invitational starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs through the end of the day Saturday, featuring over 3,000 athletes over the two days.
