
Beach Invitational Wraps Up Day One of Competition

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Big marks from the throws highlighted a great first day at the Beach Invitational on Friday, with much more action to come on day two tomorrow.
Long Beach State senior Nicholas Hudson had another successful day, recording his second PR in the men's hammer with an outstanding throw of 64.87m (212-10.00) to place 10th in the event and continues to hold the seventh spot on the all-time list. His performance also ranks him 30th on the national level. Josh Carr was just off his PR in the event with a throw of 60.48m (198-05.00), placing in 20th.
Many outstanding performances in the men's hammer throw, as Sean Donnely from Iron Wood TC unleashed a huge personal-best throw of 77.20m (253-03.00) to break the meet record. Following in second was World Class athlete Alex Young with a superb throw of 73.96m (241-09.00).
On the track, senior Trevor Stangle led the field in the men's 10,000 meters with a new personal-best time of 32:17.80 and is currently fifth in the Big West Conference.
On the women's side, De'Ondra Young had a solid performance in the hammer, finishing with a throw of 57.46m (188-06.00) to finish in 16th place. Erykah McNairy also had a solid performance, just off her PR in the event with a throw of 53.48m (175-05.00). Freshman Amy Bell recorded a huge lifetime best in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-04.00, moving her to eighth on the all-time list.
In the distances, freshman Ryley Fick competed in her first career 3000m steeplechase race, running a time of 11:37.39 to place third. Mikayla Florez also finished in third in the women's 5,000 meters and was just off her PR with a time of 17:52.11.
Competition Saturday begins at 9:00 a.m. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the gate, at the Long Beach State box office, or online here at longbeachstate.com.
