Long Beach State Drops Series Opener to No. 23 TCU, 4-1

The Dirtbags were unable to keep the offense rolling from Tuesday, recording just four hits in a 4-1 loss to No. 23 TCU in the series opener on Friday night. Tyler Gums had a career-high seven strikeouts in four innings in relief and Calvin Estrada had a pair of hits on the night.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (1-11) was unable to get much started against No. 23 TCU (8-4) on Friday night on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field, recording just four hits in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Horned Frogs.

Junior Calvin Estrada had a pair of singles to lead the offense, and Tanner Carlson singled and scored a run to push his hitting streak to four games. The RBI on Friday night went to Santino Rivera, who brought home the run with a groundout in the bottom of the fifth.

By then, TCU had built a 3-0 lead off starter Zak Baayoun, who surrendered one run in the second and two in the fifth inning. One of those runs was unearned in his five innings of work, allowing five hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts. Junior Tyler Gums had a terrific relief appearance, striking out a career-high seven batters in four innings of work, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.

Long Beach State will look to even the series on Saturday as LHP Adam Seminaris (0-2, 3.63 ERA) will get the ball, opposed by RHP Jake Eissler (2-0, 1.29 ERA) for TCU. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
