Long Beach State got the bats going early, putting up 5-spots in both the second and third innings to open up an early 10-0 advantage. The Dirtbags would cruise from there to a 14-3 victory to even the series with No. 23 TCU.
Â
Freshman Tanner Carlson had two hits, scored twice, and collected a team-leading four RBIs to establish a new career high. Freshman Chase Luttrell had a career-high three hits and scored three times, Santino Rivera had two hits and two runs scored, and Jacob Hughey was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Junior Jake Vander Wal had one of the big hits of the day, driving in three runs on a bases-clearing triple. All told, nine different Dirtbags collected a hit, eight different Dirtbags scored at least once and seven different players had an RBI.
Â
Sophomore LHP Adam Seminaris pitched well to earn his first victory of the season. The southpaw covered seven scoreless frames, allowing four hits and three walks with six strikeouts. His 7.0 innings pitched matched a career high set last season vs. Washington State.
Â
Long Beach State opened the scoring with five runs in the second inning, starting with a double down the third base line by Hughey. After Chase Luttrell was hit by a pitch, Carlson opened the scoring with a one-out single to score Hughey and make it 1-0 Dirtbags. Three batters later, Vander Wal stepped up with the bases loaded and ripped a triple into left center to clear the bases and make it 5-0 Dirtbags.

The offense continued in LBSU's next chance to hit, and this time it was a 1-out Luttrell single to begin the rally. After Dominic Campeau singled through the right side, Carlson chopped a double past the third baseman to bring home a pair. Bases loaded walks by Estrada and Porter brought in runs with two outs, and Hughey added an infield single with two outs to bring in the final run of the frame, making it 10-0 Long Beach State at the end of three innings.JAKE. LBSU added three runs in the fifth inning, getting an RBI single from Luttrell to score Estrada. The Dirtbags would also tack on runs when Carlson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Luttrell raced home on a wild pitch to make it 13-0 Dirtbags. Tyler Porter tripled to lead off the seventh and was brought home on a sac fly from Hughey to give LBSU a 14-0 edge. The Horned Frogs would score three times in the eighth with the game already in hand.Carlson AGAIN! Â
One especially good sign for the LBSU offense was the five extra-base hits as the Dirtbags had three doubles and two triples. That matched the total hits for TCU on the night.
Â
The Dirtbags will look to win the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. as LHP Alfredo Ruiz (0-3, 2.70 ERA) will start against LHP Brandon Williamson (1-1, 1.98 ERA) for TCU. Prior to the game, Long Beach State will honor Captain David Rosa, who was tragically killed while on duty with the Long Beach Fire Department last year. Rosa's family will be on hand prior to the game to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
