Dirtbags Fade in Series Finale, Falling 10-4 to No. 23 TCU

Long Beach State scored four runs in the first three innings to lead 4-3 in the early stages on Sunday afternoon, but No. 23 TCU pulled away against the Dirtbags bullpen in a 10-4 victory on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (2-12) was unable to secure its first series win of the season on Sunday afternoon on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field, falling 10-4 against No. 23 TCU in the series finale. LBSU led 4-3 after three inning, but the offense went scoreless against the TCU bullpen over the final six frames.

Junior Riki DeSa made his first career start manning left field on Sunday, and he delivered at the plate going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Junior Calvin Estrada also had a multi-hit game with an RBI and a run scored as well. Freshman Kaden Hogan collected his first hit as a Dirtbag with a pinch-hit single in the ninth.
TCU scored a single run in each of the first three innings off starter Alfredo Ruiz, but LBSU was still in front thanks to two runs scored in each the first and third innings.

Freshman Jonathan Carlos worked 1.1 perfect innings of relief and Dylan Spacke also pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless ball out of the bullpen, but it was an overall tough day for Long Beach relievers. Junior Nick Avila saw his first action on the mound for LBSU, but struggled in 1.2 innings of work, allowing four runs on five hits.

Things won't get any easier on the schedule as Long Beach State will welcome No. 2 UCLA to Long Beach on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
