LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's basketball team had a strong first half, but was unable to overcome a cold spell in the second half as the Beach dropped a 50-47 contest to Cal State Fullerton at the buzzer in a tough loss.
With the setback, Long Beach State drops to 8-20 on the year and 5-10 in the Big West, while Cal State Fullerton improves to 14-14 overall and 6-9 in league play. The Beach are now in a tie for seventh place in the Big West standings with UC Santa Barbara heading into the final game of the regular season.
The Beach shot 45.2-percent from the field in the first half, but connected on just 4-of-22 field goals in the second half (18.2 percent shooting). While LBSU went cold in the second half, Cal State Fullerton heated up as the Titans outscored the Beach 18-4 in the final 10 minutes of action.
Long Beach State opened the game strong as the Beach shot 43.8-perent from the field and used an 18-0 run to take a commanding 20-2 lead over the Titans. LBSU would take a 20-4 lead into the second quarter, and a 34-22 advantage at halftime.
LBSU owned the lead for 34 minutes of action and led by as many as 18, but Cal State Fullerton chipped away. The Beach held an 11-point edge heading in to the fourth quarter, but the Titans opened the frame on an 8-0 run to make it a one-possession game (43-40) with 4:57 left to play.
Cal State Fullerton took its first lead of the game with 3:20 left on the clock on a three by Jade Vega. However, Shanaijah Davison countered with a three of her own at 2:54 to give the Beach back a two-point edge (47-45).
The conference foes found themselves deadlocked at 47-all after a Daeja Smith jumper at 1:11 as the clock wound down. Long Beach State had possession in the tie game with 15.0 seconds remaining, but a costly turnover with just three seconds to go would lead to Raina Perez hitting a three at the buzzer to end the game.

For the Titans, Perez would finish with a game-high 15 points, while Smith added a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds).
