LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The Long Beach State track & field program wrapped up competition on Saturday at the Jim Bush Legends Invitational hosted by UCLA. The Beach had many solid performances in the field and on the track at the meet.

In the throws, freshman Malia Talavou got the day going for the Beach with a second place finish in the women's shot put, throwing (11.98m) 39-03.75, a new personal-best in the event. Crystal Rodriguez was the top finisher for the Beach in the discus throw, placing ninth in the event with a mark of (41.95m) 137-07.00. Amanda Truong and Erykah Mcnairy followed in 13th and 15th place with throws at (39.01m) 128-00.00 and (37.26m) 122-03.00. On the men's side, Tavi Kamurullah had a solid performance in the shot put and was just off the LBSU all-time list with a new PR of 56-07.25 to place sixth in the event. Toa Otine followed in seventh with a throw of 51-05.00. Charlie Vernoy recorded a new PR in the discuss with a mark of 177-00.00 and Josh Carr followed in third at 173-00.00.

More in the field, Derreck Affor and Melanee Williams were top finishers in the men's and women's long jump with marks at 22-02.25 and 18-03.75. Senior Bria Palmer had an event win in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-09.75 and holds the number one spot in the Big West Conference. Dianna Acholonu finished third in the event at 5-05.00 while Camille Finley finished seventh at 5-01.00. Jackson Potter was just off his PR in the men's high jump, clearing 6-07.25 to finish seventh in the event. In the triple jump, freshman Micayla Kelley recorded a new PR with a jump of 38-00.75 to place fifth in the competition. Allison Foster and Destinee Widgins also had solid performances, finishing seventh and eighth with jumps at 37-10.75 and 37-09.25, setting a new PR. Kennedy Krueger and Christian Mueller were top finishers for the Beach in the men's and women's pole vault with a clearances of 12-05.25 for fifth and 15-01.00 for sixth.

On the track, the women's 4x100m relay team of Courtne' Davis, Madison Golden, Skylin Harbin and Azaria Hill set the tone for an exciting season, running a time of 44.98 to finish second in the event and earn the third spot on the all-time list. Harbin continued her day with a solid performance in the 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 14.01 to place third in the event and a new PR. Sprinters Davis and Golden competed in their first 400m of the season, running 57.64 and 58.40 for 11th and 14th place. In the 200m, LeNaya Griffin and Shalee Reynolds showcased their speed, clocking times of 25.05 and 25.25. The women's 4x400m relay team ran their fastest time this season and in the Big West Conference (3:45.47) to finish third.

On the men's side, the 4x100m relay team of Femi Ajose, Faris Babineaux, Kent Harris, and Chiao Winters recorded their fastest time of the season, running 40.35 and are the current leaders in the Big West conference. Harris kept the same momentum in the 100m dash and was just off his PR, running a time of 10.69 to finish fifth. Babineaux was also just off his PR in the 200m, finishing in ninth with a time of 21.77 while Ajose ran 22.06 for 13th. To wrap up competition, the men's 4x400m relay team placed second with a time of 3:11.72 to have the number two spot in the Big West.

Long Beach State returns to action at the Big West Challenge next Friday at UC Santa Barbara.
