Dirtbags Can’t Hold Early Lead in 5-1 Loss to Fullerton

Long Beach State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but couldn’t find the scoreboard again in a 5-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon. Senior Brooks Stotler went 4-for-4 at the plate, setting a new career high in hits.
Junior RHP Sagun Gainey made his second start of the week and went a career-long 4.1 innings, allowing just one unearned run. He did surrender seven hits, including five through the first two innings, but was able to work out of trouble. Fullerton was able to tie the game, 1-1, in the fifth and busted out with a 4-spot in the seventh inning to take the 5-1 lead.
Joining Stotler in the hit column was Chase Luttrell, Santino Rivera, Kaden Hogan, and Estrada, who each had singles on Sunday afternoon. LBSU's best chance for a comeback was in the eighth inning, as Stotler led off with a double and pinch hitter Luke Rasmussen followed with a walk, but a pair of flyouts sandwiched around a strikeout ended the rally with no harm done.
LBSU will play its final home game of the pre-conference schedule on Tuesday night as the Dirtbags host USC for a 6 p.m. contest.
