No. 15 Long Beach State Starts Wolverine Invite With Win

LBSU knocked off No. 21 Marist in their opening match of the Wolverine Invite, 10-9.

Ann Arbor, Mich. – No. 15 Long Beach State opened the day against No. 21 Marist where they looked to come away with a victory to start off on the right foot. LBSU and Marist would go back and forth throughout the game, but the Beach would come out victorious, 10-9.

Junior Marilia Mimidi led the way for the Beach with four goals on the day followed by pairs from freshman Sarah Barker and freshman Orsi Hertzka.

Marist would take the lead at the end of one quarter as they led 3-2 with the goals from the Beach coming from Mimidi and Barker. The Beach would take control in the second quarter as they would take the lead, 5-4. Goals would come from Hertzka and two more from Mimidi.

Heading into the third quarter, the Beach would still hold control of the game as they would lead, 8-7. Freshman Gabriella Matafora-Adams, senior Annabel Harman, and Barker would all score for the Beach. LBSU would add the final touches in the fourth to top off Marist, 10-9. Mimidi would score one final goal along with another one from Hertzka.

The Beach will be back in action later today against No. 13 Fresno State at 2:45 p.m.
