IRVINE, Calif. –
The No. 7 seed Long Beach State women's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Wednesday night after dropping a hard-fought contest to No. 3 seed UC Riverside, 67-50, in the Big West Tournament Quarterfinals at the Bren Events Center.

The Beach concludes the year with a 9-22 overall record, while the Highlanders advance to the semifinals with a 17-14 ledger.

Sophomore Shanaijah Davison led all scorers with 18 points, while Jasmine Hardy finished with 14 points – just one off her career-best, to lead the Beach. Naomi Hunt concluded the contest with eight rebounds, while adding six points.

Freshman Justina King was a solid contributor dishing out four assists, while swiping two steals.

Long Beach State played with grit and determination throughout. The Beach started the game off trading points with the Highlanders, and after falling behind 20-10 following a 9-0 UCR run in the first quarter, managed to chip away at Riverside's lead and whittle it down to one (24-23) in the second.

Davison led LBSU's offensive output in the second quarter scoring 10 of the team's 12 points and leading a 7-0 run that would cut UC Riverside's once 10-point advantage down to one. While the offense surged, the Beach defense kept the Highlanders without a field goal for nearly five minutes in the frame. However, UCR would close out the first half with a three from Marina Ewodo followed by a jumper by Daphne Gnago as the Beach trailed 31-24 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Highlanders open up a 13-point lead as they held the Beach without a field goal for more than five minutes. That scoring drought would prove to be too much for Long Beach State to overcome as the Beach trailed for the remainder of the game.

Despite falling behind by as many as 18 (66-48), Long Beach State refused to quit. The Beach made it a two-possession game in the fourth quarter (48-42), but were unable able to come any closer as UC Riverside pushed its lead back up to double digits as the Beach eventually fell by a score of 67-50.

Each of the Highlanders' starters reached double figures in the game as Ewodo led the team with 17 points. Gnago and Tianna Eaton each recorded double-doubles as Gnago registered 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Eaton added 10 points and 11 boards.
