
Long Beach State Totals Four Wins At Aztec Invitational

LBSU beats UC San Diego and Fresno Pacific.
San Diego, Calif. — LBSU opened the final day of the Aztec Invitational against No. 14 UC San Diego and upset the Tritons, 5-1. The Beach finalized the day against Fresno Pacific, 21-4. Junior Marilia Mimidi led the Beach in game one with two goals along with freshman Katie Dill who also had two goals.
LBSU held a low scoring game against the Tritons with the 5-1 game. Mimidi opened up the scoring for the Beach, 1-0, at the end of one. Long Beach State stayed on top at the half as freshman Sarah Barker scored to make it 2-1.
The Beach would extend the lead in the third quarter with goals from Mimidi and Dill to make it 4-1. Dill would score once more in the fourth to finish the Tritons, 5-1.
The Beach would jump back in the pool later in the day against Fresno Pacific. In this game, LBSU would bring out an offensive arsenal as they would top FPU, 21-4. Freshman Camille Gallardo-Russell scored five total goals against Fresno Pacific, along with three goals from Barker. Mimidi, Barker, and freshman Gabriella Matafora-Adams would all score in the first as the Beach would pitch a shutout, 4-0 at the end of one. Freshman Orsi Hertzka, Gallardo-Russell and Barker would also score to make it 9-2 at the half.
Dill, senior Annabel Harman, Matafora-Adams, and sophomore Olivia Grim would score in the third to make it 13-3. Hertzka, Harman, junior Paige Bennett, sophomore Ariana Honka, and Camille Gallardo-Russell would score before the onslaught was over, 21-4.
Hertzka finally ended her streak of scoring in every game against UC San Diego. She added two more against Fresno Pacific to total 48 on the year. Mimidi totals 26 goals on the year for the Beach.
The Beach will be back in their home opener on Thursday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. against Bucknell.
