LBSU had a chance to upset the UCLA Bruins, but fell 16-6.

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State traveled to Irvine for the Barbara Kalbus Invitational for their first match against one of the top ranked teams in the nation in No. 3 UCLA. No. 17 LBSU would put up a fight against the Bruins, but UCLA would overpower the Beach as they fell 16-6.

LBSU would find themselves in a hole early in the game as UCLA would lead 5-1 after one quarter with the lone goal for the Beach coming from freshman Orsi Hertzka. The second quarter would be much of the same as the Beach would fall behind 9-2 with the second goal of the day coming from junior Marilia Mimidi.

The Beach would attempt to fight back in the second half, but the third quarter pitted them in a deep gap as they trailed 13-4. The two goals on the quarter came from senior Tori Morrissey and freshman Sarah Barker. Senior Annabel Harman would open things up for the Beach in the fourth quarter as she would bag her first goal of the game to make it 13-5. Freshman Gabriella Matafora-Adams would tack on a goal in the fourth for the Beach to make it 14-6. The Beach would eventually fall 16-6.

Hertzka has now accumulated 24 goals on the season, while Tori Morrissey now has 11 goals on the season. Harman jumped up to 10 goals on the season. Barker climbs up to seven goals as Mimidi adds five total goals on the season.

The Beach will have a pair of games tomorrow with the first coming against the loser between No. 6 Michigan and No. 12 LMU at 11:45 a.m. The second match of the day will depend on the outcome of their morning game.
