
No. 17 Long Beach State Splits Pair Of Games

LBSU opened the day against No. 12 LMU but fell 14-13. LBSU bounced back against No. 21 CSUN, 12-5.
IRVINE, Calif. — No. 17 Long Beach State (2-7) looked to take down No. 12 LMU (4-6) as they faced them for the second time on the year. LBSU would stay within striking distance, but would eventually fall in a close one, 14-13.
LBSU and LMU would stay tied at the end of one, 3-3, with goals coming from junior Marilia Mimidi, sophomore Olivia Grim, and freshman Orsi Hertzka. The game would keep a similar pace at the half as LBSU would fall behind, 8-7, as goals would come from freshman Katie Dill, Grim, along with a pair from Hertzka.
As the game would turn towards the second half, LBSU would stay close behind LMU trailing 11-10 at the end of three with goals by senior Annabel Harman, freshman Gabriella Matafora-Adams, and freshman Sarah Barker. The Beach would eventually fall, 14-13 with final touches by Grim, Matafora-Adams, senior Tori Morrissey.
The Beach would aim to bounce back in their evening game against CSUN (6-8). LBSU would defeat CSUN, 12-5. The Beach would open up the game with a tied quarter, 1-1, on a goal by Mimidi. Harman and Dill would give the Beach the lead in the second quarter to put them up 3-1. A pair of goals by junior Paige Bennett and a goal by Grim would make it 6-2 at the half.
Hertzka, Barker, Mimidi, Morrissey, and Grim would all score in the second half to finish at 12-5.
The Beach will face No. 13 San Jose State tomorrow at 10:15 a.m.
