
The Beach Gears Up for the MPSF Championships

LBSU will be competing February 22-23 in Seattle, Washington.
SEATTLE, Wash. - Long Beach State gears up to compete in the MPSF indoor track and field Championships at the University of Washington. LBSU is sending a big squad of over 40 individual entries to compete in this weekend's competition. Â

On the men's side, senior Kemonie Briggs leads the way for the Beach, holding the number one qualifying mark of 25-07.25 in the long jump going into the MPSF Championships. He is currently ranked 15th nationally, keeping him in contention to compete in the indoor championships set in Birmingham, Alabama and claim an All-American title.

School record holder, Koty Burton should also be among one of the favorites in the 60-meter hurdles entering in with the eighth-best qualifying time of 7.96 in the field. Jason Smith and Vincent Calhoun will both compete in the men's high jump and are top contenders in the event, entering in at sixth and seventh place. Josh Carr will compete in the weight throw and is in position to put up points for the Beach with his fifth-best qualifying mark of 63-11.50.

The women's sprints will have the 4x100m school record holders Courtne' Davis, Madison Golden, and Azaria Hill compete in both the 60-meters and 200-meter dash.

Senior Courtne' Davis has the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 60-meter dash, and ranks 20th in the 200m. Among the top contenders is senior Bria Palmer, who ranks fourth entering in the high jump with a clearance of 5-10.50 and Melanee Williams who will compete in the long jump and 60m hurdles. De'Ondra Young is set to compete in the weight throw, entering with the sixth-best mark in the field.

Action gets underway from Dempsey Indoor at Noon on Friday, with action running late into the evening. The competition will resume on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
