Long Beach State Falls Against Hawai’i

LBSU fought and kept it close through the first three quarters, but Hawaii pulled away in the fourth
HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Beach faced the Rainbow Wahine for the second time in as many weeks, but came up short in a tough road loss. Long Beach State went back-and-forth against Hawai'i in the opening quarters, but fell in the fourth quarter eventually dropping a 63-49 decision at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Beach (7-17, 4-7 Big West) displayed grit as they faced a tough environment and opponent in Hawai'i (11-13, 7-4). LBSU stayed within striking distance as it trailed by four in the first quarter (12-8). The Beach would keep the same pace as they outscored the Rainbow Wahine in the second quarter (15-12) to pull within one at the break (24-23).
Hawai'i extend its lead in the third quarter to five as the Rainbow Wahine entered the final quarter of play. The Wahine would pull away in the fourth quarter, as the Beach struggled offensively. The Beach would eventually fall, 63-49.
Freshman Justina King led the way for the Beach in scoring as she put up 16 points, while adding two assists and three steals. Sophomore Shanaijah Davison would add 14 points and junior Cydnee Kinslow tacked on a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hawai'i also had three different players in double figures as Courtney Middap led both team with a game-high 17 points. Leah Salanoa added 10 points and Makenna Woodfolk contributed 12.
LBSU finished the night shooting 34.6 percent (18-for-52) from the field and 17.4 percent (4-for-23) from long distance.
The Beach will be back in action on Thursday, February 21 at 7 p.m., against CSUN at the Matadome.
