Long Beach State went unbeaten on Saturday at the CSUN Fall Tournament, winning all 10 matches on the day. Only one of the matches even made it to three sets as the Beach dominated its competition heading into Sunday’s final day.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Long Beach State went a perfect 10-0 on day two of the CSUN Fall Tournament on Saturday, winning both doubles matches and all eight singles contests. Wiktoria Rutkowska and Lalita Devarakonda both advanced to the finals in the top two singles flights while Rutkowska and partner Carlota Casasampere will play for the top-flight doubles title on Sunday.
"It was an incredibly strong day of tennis for us," said LBSU head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "It is very difficult to go 10-0 in one day and we did it in the top two flights. Impressive performance by everyone!"
The day started with doubles as Rutkowska and Casasampere won their match against a pair from LMU to reach the Flight A doubles final to be played Sunday at 9 a.m. In Flight B, LBSU's pair of Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri picked up a 6-4 win over a pair of Big West rivals from Cal State Fullerton to advance to the consolation final.
