The Beach wrapped up its weekend in Northridge, ending a productive weekend at the CSUN Fall Tournament. LBSU was unable to repeat its perfect performance from Saturday, but Carlota Casasampere won the Flight B singles consolation final to highlight Sunday’s action.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Beach finished up the CSUN Fall Tournament on Sunday with four singles matches and a pair of doubles contests. Thanks to an unbeaten performance on Saturday, every match for the Beach was either a main draw or consolation final in the top two flights of competition.
Â
Carlota Casasampere led the way for the Beach on Sunday as she won the consolation final in Flight B, defeating Lucy Octave from Utah State, 6-3, 6-3.
Â
In the top flight singles final, Wiktoria Rutkowska played a tough three-set battle against LMU's Veronica Miroshnichenko, but couldn't hang on after winning the opening set in a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 defeat. Also in Flight A, Sadaf Sadeghvaziri played a back-and-forth match against North Texas' Nidhi Surapaneni. Sadeghvaziri came up on the short end of a 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 score line.
Â
There was also an extremely close doubles match for the Beach as Rutkowska and Casasampere lost 7-6 (9-7) in the Flight A doubles final against the Nguyen/Ode pair from Liberty.
Â
The Beach will return to competition Jan. 17-19 when hosting the Beach Tennis Winter Invite. The regular dual match season begins Feb. 1 at USC.
