Long Beach State’s four returners and four newcomers are set for the new campaign.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State kicks off the fall tournament season this weekend, traveling to Las Vegas to take part in the UNLV Fall Invitational.
The whole team is tentatively scheduled to participate as Jenny Hilt-Costello's young squad, featuring seven underclassmen, gets set for their first competition. The UNLV Fall Invitational will feature five flights of singles and two flights of doubles with five schools competing in Northern Arizona, San Jose State, Southern Utah and the hosts along with the Beach.
Junior Natalia Munoz is the most experienced veteran for Long Beach State, returning after earning first-team All-Big West honors in singles and second-team honors in doubles one season ago. The Santa Clarita native begins the year with 73 combined victories in two seasons and has a great opportunity to move up the career rankings this upcoming year.
Sophomores Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri both garnered honorable mention All-Big West merit in doubles one season ago and return for the Beach. Sadeghvaziri finished with 21 singles wins one year ago, while Devarakonda competed at the highest flight amongst the team's freshman one year ago, posting a 4-3 record at No. 4. They are joined by Carlota Casasampere, who went 9-7 overall in singles in her first season at the Beach.
The Beach is set for four freshmen to make their debuts as well. Emma Bardet from Vichy, France, Zara Lennon from Grand Bay, Mauritius, Dominique Meyer from Aarau, Switzerland and Wiktoria Rutkowska from Puszczykowo, Poland are four freshman that continue the Long Beach State tradition of finding top International talent to represent Long Beach State.
Action in the tournament will begin with quarterfinal play for all flights on Friday. The semifinals will be held on Saturday with the championship round concluding the tournament on Sunday.
