Owen, Stangle Lead Long Beach State At UCR Invitational

Sophomore Taylor Owen was the top finisher for LBSU in her first race of the year.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Sophomore Taylor Owen was the women's top finisher on Saturday, finishing in 26th overall while Trevor Stangle repeated as the top men's finisher, taking 18th place at the UCR Invitational.
Owen did not run at the Mark Covert Classic, instead debuting in 2018 in a big way this weekend, running a 6K PR of 21:22 to finish in 26th place overall. Next across the line was senior Mikayla Florez who took 36th place with a time of 21:36. Freshman Leslie Diaz closely followed in 43rd with a time of 21:48.
Overall, the women's team finished in 8th place out of 21 teams, in front of a trio of Big West programs in CSUN, Hawai'i and the hosts, UC Riverside.
The men's program also finished in the Top 10, tenth out of 21 teams at the UCR Invitational. The top of the scoring was the same as in Brea, as Stangle came home 18th with a time of 24:47, a new PR, followed by freshman Tyler Spencer in 33rd with a time of 25:07, also a new collegiate best. Fellow freshman Raymon Ornelas as the third finisher for the Beach in 61st place .
Long Beach State is back in action on September 28 at the Capital Cross Classic, hosted by Sacramento State.
