Beach Picked Second in GCC Men’s Water Polo Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Long Beach State men’s water polo was picked to finish second in the Golden Coast Conference in 2018, according to the Preseason Coaches’ Poll released on Friday.
LOS ANGELES -- The Golden Coast Conference released its 2018 Men's Water Polo Preseason Coaches' Poll on Friday, and Long Beach State was picked to finish second in the conference this season. Defending champion Pacific was chosen to repeat, and LBSU was the only other team to receive a first-place vote.
The Tigers earned 25 points, receiving five of the six first-place votes up for grabs. Long Beach State (18 points, one first-place vote) was just ahead of UC Santa Barbara (17 points) in third place and Pepperdine (16 points) in fourth.
Long Beach State finished in a tie with UC Irvine for second place in the conference a season ago. In two seasons of GCC play, LBSU has gone 3-2 each season.
The Beach begins the 2018 season on Saturday at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, facing Cal Baptist at 9:20 a.m. The Golden Coast Conference opener is Oct. 5 at home against Pepperdine.
