Long Beach State Welcomes Purdue in Non-Conference Contest

LONG BEACH – The Long Beach State women's tennis team looks to extend its three-match winning streak this week as the Beach hosts Purdue in a non-conference contest on Saturday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Beach had three matches scheduled last week, but due to weather, were only able to play in two.
• In the two matches Long Beach State played in last week, the Beach were victorious in both.
• Long Beach State started the week with a thrilling 4-3 win over Penn on Tuesday in which sophomore Natalia Munoz clinched the match with a 6-3 victory in set three.
• The Beach followed that performance with a convincing 6-1 win over Furman on Friday.
ABOUT THE BEACH
• Long Beach State has won its last three matches with wins over UC Irvine (6-0), Penn (4-3), and Furman (6-1).
• The Beach has improved to 6-5 on the year and 2-1 in Big West action.
• With a 4-3 victory over Penn last week, head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello recorded her 350th career victory at the helm of the Long Beach State women's tennis program.
• In singles action, the Beach have three players who are riding a three-match winning streak. Munoz leads the bunch with an 8-3 record in the No. 2 spot, while Maren Helgo has won her last three matches in the No. 3 spot to even her record at 3-3. Lastly, Carlota Casasampere's three-match winning streak in the No. 6 spot moves her record to 5-3.
ACROSS THE NET – PURDUE
• Purdue comes into the match against Long Beach State with a 6-7 overall record.
• The Boilermakers have lost their last three matches to Notre Dame (6-1), Northwestern (4-0), and Illinois (6-1).
• When playing on the road, Purdue is 1-3 on the year, with its only victory coming on Feb. 25 at then-No. 38 Arkansas, 4-3.
NEXT UP
• Long Beach State concludes its six-match homestand on Friday, March 23 when it hosts Dartmouth at 2 p.m., at Rhodes Tennis Center.
