Beach Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Long Beach State women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback at Maryland on Saturday as the Beach drop to 3-3 on the year.
"We fought hard against a good team today and came up a little short," Long Beach State head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello said. "This was a challenging weekend of tennis and we are a better team for it."
The Beach started the day in doubles action, but dropped the doubles point as Maryland (1-3) earned a pair of wins. Long Beach State's lone win in doubles action came in the No. 3 spot as Sadef Sadeghvaziri and Georgia Gulin teamed up to defeated Maryland's Saya Usui and Anastasiia Gevel, 4-3.
In singles, Maryland won four of the six matches as Long Beach State fell behind 4-0 to start. However, Natalia Munoz got the Beach going as she earned a 6-1 3-1, 10-8 win over Ekaterina Tour in the No. 2 spot.
The victory on court two sparked the Beach as Sadeghvaziri followed suit and picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court five over Gevel. With the two Long Beach State wins, the Beach had made it a 4-2 match.
However, Millie Stretton of Maryland put the match away with a win over Maren Helgo on court three by scores of 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
Long Beach State returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m., when it hosts Loyola Marymount at Rhodes Tennis Center.
