Long Beach, Calif. --
Looking to improve on its Big West Championship appearance last season, No. 10 Long Beach State gets its season started this weekend at the Stanford Invitational.
It will be a challenging weekend for the Beach when they open play against No. 8 Pacific Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
In their second match of the day, the Beach will take on the China Women's National Team - an opportunity Gavin Arroyo is looking forward to for the team.
"I think any time you get a chance to compete against a national team, it had tons of value," Arroyo said. "They're professionals, (they're) going to be more physical. It's great that it's an exhibition. It's a completely learning process, so we hope to get a lot from that."
The Beach will take on No. 1 Stanford at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
"We're not easing into the season if you will," Arroyo said. "We're exciting to get going, we've been doing a lot of training and we're excited to see where we're at."
LBSU's final opponent will be determined once bracket play has concluded.
