Gavin Arroyo Named Golden Coast Conference Coach of the Year

Head Coach Gavin Arroyo was named Golden Coast Conference Coach of the Year after a stellar season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State's Men's Water Polo Head Coach, Gavin Arroyo was awarded the 2018 Golden Coast Conference Coach of the Year award as voted on by the league's six coaches. Arroyo receives the award after leading the group to its first NCAA Tournament since 1991. The award makes it his fourth at LBSU with his previous three coming when they were in the MPSF in 2007, 2012, and 2014.
This season, Arroyo led the team to a 14-12 overall record, winning seven of their last eight games, along with earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gavin Arroyo helped the team achieve LBSU's first GCC Tournament championship in their short history in the conference.
Arroyo has an overall record at Long Beach State of 197-166 with his best season being back in 2014 when the team went 22-7 posting a 7-3 conference record. That same year, LBSU ended up with a No. 4 national ranking, marking their highest in school history. This was Arroyo's 13th season as the head coach and the team finished the regular season with a No. 5 ranking in the national polls following an NCAA quarterfinals appearance.
