Beach Open NCAA Tournament At Home Against Pomona-Pitzer

The Beach will host Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday with a chance to advance to the quarterfinals in Stanford, Calif.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (13-11, 3-2) will be making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991 with a home stand against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (24-8, 15-0). Long Beach State qualified to the tournament with their incredible Golden Coast Conference run where they beat Pepperdine, 5-4 and Pacific, 10-6. The Beach will look to top the Sagehens and advance to take on UC San Diego in the quarterfinals where they would then have to travel to Stanford, Calif.
Long Beach State is led by junior Austin Stewart who topped 50 goals on the season, which placed him on the all-time record books for the Beach. Stewart carried the load last game against Pacific with his four-goal performance. In addition to Stewart's sharp shooting, he is also carrying a 10-game streak of scoring a goal in a game. The last time the junior wasn't able to net a goal came back on Oct. 13 against USC. Senior Keegan Wicken follows with his goal total of 23 goals, while senior Chandler Kaltenbach and junior Johnathan Wong backs him up with 21 total goals. All-Freshman Garrett Zaan rounds off the list for top scores of the Beach with 20 goals.

The Sagehens enter the match up having been undefeated in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, 15-0, and with an overall record of 24-8. Pomona-Pitzer is led by Adam Ward who has 55 goals on the season.

The Beach will be entering the matchup with history on their side as they are 11-0 all-time against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens beating them last season 13-8. On average, in their last four matchups, the Beach have won by a margin no less than four goals.
