The Beach will take on the Pepperdine Waves in hopes of reaching the Golden Coast Conference Championship Game on Sunday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach have been scorching hot recently as they ride a four-game win streak with wins coming against No. 5 Pacific, No. 20 San Jose State, No. 13 LMU, and No. 11 UC Irvine. LBSU (11-11, 3-2 GCC) is seeded No. 3 in the GCC Tournament while Pepperdine Waves (15-10, 3-1 GCC) are seeded No. 2 in the tournament. The Waves enter the tournament having won their last three games with wins coming against No. 17 Princeton, No. 20 San Jose, and No. 16 Santa Clara.
LBSU most recently shrugged off the UC Irvine Anteaters last Friday with an exciting 8-7 victory that came down to the final possession. Junior Austin Stewart leads the Beach with 45 goals followed by senior Keegan Wicken with 22 goals. Freshman Garrett Zaan will look to continue his 11 game streak with a goal in consecutive games on Saturday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine enters the match up with a 15-10 record along with a 3-1 conference record. The Waves are led by Chris Dilworth who has 50 goals on the season.
SERIES RECORD vs. PEPPERDINE
The Beach and the Waves have split their last four matches up by an even 2-2 with Pepperdine beating LBSU earlier in the year, 10-8. LBSU beat Pepperdine last year to end the season by a score of 10-9 in OT.
Pepperdine was originally going to be the host of the tournament, but due to the fires in Malibu, Calif. the tournament has been rescheduled to Long Beach State. The Beach will look to take down Pepperdine on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center in hopes of making it to the championship game.
