Fryer One Shot Off Lead After Round Two at Pacific Invitational

Senior Joe Fryer shot a career-best round of 65, going six shots under par to improve his overall score to 8-under through two rounds of the Pacific Invitational. He’s in second place, just one shot behind the leader.
STOCKTON, Calif. -- Senior Joe Fryer moved into second place at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Friday, shooting a career-low round of 65. His 6-under round moved him to 8-under for the tournament and helped keep the Beach comfortably in sixth place, sitting just seven shots off the lead near the top of a crowded leaderboard.

Fryer started his round with birdies on the first two holes, and finished the front nine at 3-under. An eagle on the par-5 14th highlighted his back nine, and the senior birdied 18 to close the day with a 65.

Two other Beach golfers went under par, as Patrick Pockels and Hunter Epson each fired 70's on Friday. Hunter Reed was at even par with a 71 to round out the scorers for the Beach. Pockels and Reed sit in a tie for 18th headed into Saturday's final round.

Long Beach State is eight shots clear of UC Santa Barbara in eighth place, sitting in the upper tier of the team leaderboard. LBSU is 11-under as a team, trailing St. Mary's (-13), San Francisco (-14), San Jose State (-15), Nevada (-16), and BYU (-18) in the standings.

Saturday's final round gets underway for the Beach at 8:45 a.m. at the Stockton Country Club. Fryer (-8) will begin his round at 9:21 a.m. as he looks to chase down BYU's Peter Kuest (-9) over the final 18 holes.
