LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior Maeva Razakasoa was named the Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, coming off a strong week for her and the Beach. LBSU went 3-0 last week with wins over Georgetown, Cal State Fullerton and San Diego. Individually, Razakasoa didn't drop a match, going 3-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles with one match going unfinished.
This is the first time a Beach player has earned Athlete of the Week honors this season, but this is not a first for Razakasoa. The senior from Cranves-Sales, France has won this award five times before, making it six for her career. That is the second-most in program history, behind only Hannah Grady's 11.
Entering this week, Razakasoa had won nine of her last 10 singles matches and led the Beach with 16 singles wins on the season. During the week, Razakasoa earned her 100th career victory in the match against Georgetown. She is the new all-time singles wins leader at Long Beach State, with eyes on becoming the overall wins leader at some point this season.
LBSU will next play vs. Yale at 2 p.m. on Friday at Rhodes Tennis Center.
