2/2/2017 12:00:00 AM | Women's Tennis
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Beach Tennis will celebrate its 2017 home opener on Saturday at 11 a.m. vs. UC Riverside, which will also signal the start of Big West Conference action. The Beach suffered a narrow 4-3 loss at Loyola Marymount last Friday, and will be looking to bounce back in front of a home crowd.
ACROSS THE NET
• UC Riverside is currently 0-2 on the year, with home losses to Arkansas, 7-0, and CSUN, 6-1.
• Junior Karla Dulay picked up the lone singles win for the Highlanders in the CSUN match, winning 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
• LBSU won last year's meeting in Riverside, 7-0. The Beach owns a 20-0 advantage in all meetings with UC Riverside.
ON A STREAK
• LBSU has won 28 consecutive regular season matches against Big West opponents dating back to Mar. 30, 2013.
• The Beach is also on a seven-match home winning streak and hasn't lost a Big West home match since Mar. 5, 2011.
SENIORS SPECIAL
• The 2017 senior class will go down as one of the best in Long Beach State history, and is already the winningest. All four of this year's seniors—Laura Eales, Julie Gerard, Maeva Razakasoa and Hayley Thompson—are in the Top 15 for overall wins in program history, still with a final semester yet to play.
• Senior Maeva Razakasoa is a two-time and defending Big West Player of the Year. She is looking to claim the conference's top honor for the third time this season, which would put her one award shy of LBSU Hall of Famer Hannah Grady.
