Beach Tennis Welcomes In Sacramento State, UC Davis This Weekend

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State (5-2, 2-0 Big West) will host a pair of contests this week at Rhodes Tennis Center, welcoming in a couple of Northern California foes. Sacramento State will visit the Beach on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by Big West opponent UC Davis on Saturday at 10 a.m. (*Changed from 11 a.m.)
LAST TIME OUT
Long Beach State cruised past UC Irvine for its 22nd straight win against the Big West. The Beach took all three doubles matches and won the top five singles contests. Maeva Razakasoa, Ebba Unden and Laura Eales all won in straight sets in the 6-1 victory.
On Saturday, the Beach scored a 5-2 win over San Diego State, led by straight-set wins from Razakasoa, Julie Gerard, Hayley Thompson and Eales. The wins for Razakasoa, Thompson and Eales were particularly commanding with each player dropping just two games in their wins.
MAEVA HONORED
Junior Maeva Razakasoa was selected as last week's Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after going 4-0 in combined singles and doubles action.
It was the third honor of her career, having won the award once in each of her previous two seasons at Long Beach State.
ACROSS THE NET - SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets are 4-2 on the season and have played several common opponents with Long Beach State. Their last match was a close 4-3 road victory over UC Davis.
Sac State has played three teams (San Francisco, UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount) that LBSU has already played an beaten. The Hornets played all three opponents away from home, going 2-1 in those matches with the loss coming at LMU, 5-2.
ACROSS THE NET - UC DAVIS
The Aggies have been busy this season, playing 11 matches so far. UCD is 4-7 overall and 1-2 in Big West play with a win over Cal Poly and losses to UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton.
Davis comes to Long Beach on a three-game losing streak, falling to Fullerton and Sac State at home, then losing at No. 60 San Jose State, 6-1.
Long Beach State owns a 12-1 advantage all-time in its series with the Aggies and hasn't lost to UC Davis since 1993.
BIG WEST STREAK
After a 6-1 win vs. UCI on Feb. 26, the Beach has won its last 22 regular season matches against Big West competition, dating back to Mar. 2, 2013.
Including Big West Tournament action, Long Beach has won 31 straight matches vs. Big West competition.
MAJOR VICTORIES
Even in defeat against Arizona State, Long Beach State got three key wins over ranked opposition, two in singles and one in doubles play.
Maeva Razakasoa knocked off No. 36 ranked Desirae Krawczyk at top singles by a score of 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3, recording her second win over a ranked opponent this season.
At No. 2 singles, Ebba Unden scored a big win over No. 98 Kassidy Jump, taking a very even match by the score of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
In doubles, Laura Eales and Hayley Thompson partnered up and beat the No. 54 ranked doubles team of Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne by a score of 6-3.
WELCOME TO THE RANKINGS
Razakasoa's big win vaulted her all the way to No. 57 in the most recent ITA singles rankings. That mark is the highest of Razakasoa's career and the third-highest in program history behind Jing Chen (37th, 1998) and Hannah Grady (38th, 2006).
Also making an appearance in the national rankings is LBSU's top doubles team of Eales and Thompson. They checked in at No. 55 in the most recent doubles rankings.
UNDEN-IABLE SKILLS
Ebba Unden, Long Beach State's lone senior, has a chance to break some career records this season. She began the dual match schedule with over 75 wins in both singles and doubles, placing her 7th in program history in total wins with 151.
With 38 combined wins during the spring season, Unden would tie LBSU's all-time wins leader, and current assistant coach Anais Dallara, with 189 career wins.
